Komodo Travel Beach Cleanup

Komodo Travel organized its first annual beach cleanup in August 2012. The main objectives of the project were to improve the aesthetics of local beaches and to reduce the environmental impact of garbage on the local environment.

A total of 70 local volunteers comprised of 48 students, as well as teachers and interested local adults participated in the clean up. Clean-up efforts focused on Pasar Lama Beach and the beach at Sabolon Island. All litter was characterized and quantified.

The most common items were sandals, plastic containers and bottles. Other items included cans, nets, rope, cardboard, Styrofoam, and plastic bags. Komodo Travel hopes that other local businesses will join its annual cleanup in future years to help keep Komodo clean!
